A family of five and a truck driver were seriously injured after a crash on Interstate 81 Wednesday morning.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton, the crash occurred around 10:30am, on Interstate 81 Northbound near mile marker 141 in Luzerne County, just north of the McAdoo exit.
Police say Chevrolet Tahoe carrying a family of five, towing a U-Haul trailer, rear-ended a Kenworth Dump Truck.
The five people, a male driver, female passenger, and 3 minor children, in the Tahoe were all entrapped in the vehicle and were seriously injured. All 5 suffered injuries with at least 4 helicopters were called to transfer victims.
The driver of the dump truck, James Gyle, 48, of Hunlock Creek, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in Hazleton.
The crash is still under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
Interstate 81 was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
Hazle Township Fire and McAdoo Fire responded to the scene. Hometown Fire assisted with traffic control in the borough of McAdoo.
