Tuesday will be a day filled with food, fun activities, educational exercises and entertainment at the Schuylkill County Fair.
The day starts at 11AM when the gates open to the public. And new this year, everything is open. A new ride company, Goodtime Amusements out of Hellertown, PA is operating the rides opening at 1PM.
If a fair goer comes a little early on Tuesday, you may see the alpaca show in progress followed by the sheep show. 4-H/FFA members show off their breeding and market animals in front of a seasoned judge, who in their opinion, determine which animals are superior. Don’t forget to see those cantankerous goats at 3 PM in the Ag Arena for some fun and laughs.
The Schuylkill Ballet Theatre will be performing Tuesday afternoon on the M & T Stage. They are coming off their most recent and very successful production of "Charlie's Chocolate Adventure." This is a "Sensory Friendly" performance of a wacky, whimsical ballet brought to life by a cast of 35 local dancers. The Schuylkill Ballet Theatre is delighted to perform excerpts from their recent ballet production- “Charlie’s Chocolate Adventure” during the 2019 Schuylkill County Fair! This whimsical story is about a poor boy named Charlie Bucket- who dreamed of being a “chocolatier.” Willy Wonka- owner of the mysterious chocolate factory- proclaims the 5 Golden Ticket winners will tour his chocolate factory. Complete with lots of surprises unbeknownst to the winners. This hilarious story is one for the young and young at heart, with lots of laughs along the way!
Another sensory friendly performance can be found with the “Touch a Truck.” Here Kids of all ages can get up close and personal with the PA State Police, Pottsville Ems, Moyer’s Car Care roll back, Army Trucks, Tractors, Fire Trucks, Sherriff’s Office vehicles, and many more.
Dodge the Schuylkill County Scream Queens on the rollerblades as the spin around the fairgrounds, Have yourself fingerprinted with the county sheriff’s Office, Great Smokey the bear and hug other adorable mascots parading around the grounds.
Again on the M & T Stage at 2 Pm Artist In Motion Performing Arts will be performing a variety of artistic numbers. Artist in Motion has developed into a premier performing arts studio. They will be performing an all-encompassing range of performance technique with students who range in age from 18 months old to adults.
Lunch under the trees of the Dr. James S. Shadle Nature Center and later take in the educational hands on stations in the center. The Nature Center will be set up with a number of interactive nature learning stations. Make a bracelet learning the cycles of the earth. Learn about the natural elements through hands on activities. These are some of the nature activities under the direction Porcupine Pat.
Want to get up close and encounter some of the exotic kind? Well you can get up close when you encounter the lions and tigers. Check out the amphitheater area of the fairgrounds for the show times of 2, 6 and 8 PM performances of these majestic creatures. The performances are sponsored by Hess Catering, D&S Portable Toilets and Wiest RV.
Want to keep moving? Then stop in to hear and see Matt Uroskie of MST Entertainment. Matt will be moving to the grove on the indoor stage inside the Main Midway Building. He will be entertaining kids of all ages as a DJ with a little Karaoke mixed in. Matt will start at 12 noon and continue till 4:30. You will want to keep moving with Matt till the very end. So don’t miss Matt Uroskie as MST Entertainment.
The Kids Tent has many activities going on inside and immediately outside the tent area on Kids Day. Inside the tent you will finding engaging crafts based upon agriculture and nature. Outside the tent you will find many creative contests just for this day. These are some of the contest going on for the day include: Frozen T-shirt, and Cupcake Challenge. Visit the Kids Tent for times of these contests. In addition to these contests the kid’s area has many more contests in which to participate. Cool off with an ice cream eating contest. Fill your hunger with Pie and slurp some Jell-O eating while washing it all down with participation in the Milk Chugging Contest. Exercise off all that you ate with the pedal tractor pull run by the Agriculture Museum or take a more relaxed attitude and watch for the Tractor Parade put on by the Ag Museum at 4:30 as it wonders throughout the fairgrounds. All of these contests and more may be found in and around the Kid’s Tent.
Don’t miss the Youth Obstacle Contest. The contest will be held at 6PM in the Ag Arena. Youth exhibitors will to the best of their ability work a species of livestock in, around and through various obstacles. The youth are up for the challenge and it is sure to be an Ag-citement event.
Some big kids will be taking the track at 7PM for the Lucas Oil East Coast National Pull. Featuring 2WD Tractors, Hot Farm Tractors, Limited Pro Stock Semi’s, Modified Tractors, and East Coast Diesel – Pro Stock Diesel FWD Trucks. The Truck pulls for the evening are sponsored by Reynmil Inc., Forest Products, Kistler Transportation, Alpine Building Supply, M. Weider Trucking Inc., Kistler Farms, and Minersville Auto Parts
Top off Kids Day with a sweet treat by sampling the desserts of the Schuylkill County Wine Contest at 5PM. Take the treat with you as you go to watch the evening’s entertainment on the M&T Bank stage which is the Sapphire. They will be performing at 7 and 9PM. Sapphire is sponsored by Hidden River Credit Union and Richard B. Ryon Insurance. Play the whole day at the Schuylkill County Fair and be a kid again.
