Margaret Chalkan, 92, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away Friday, August 16th, at Lehigh Valley East Norwegian, Pottsville.
Margaret was born in Mahanoy City, PA on February 26, 1927, a daughter of the late Margaret (Klipola) and Albert Stankinas (Stinsky).
She was a member of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Mahanoy City, PA 17948.
Margaret attended local Schools.
She had worked for the former Russell Williams Shirt Factory and the Mahanoy City Cigar Factory.
She was wife of the late John Chalkan who passed away in 1997.
Margaret is survived by a daughter, Carol Schott, of Frackville; two sons John, of Mahanoy City; Michael, of New Orleans; and by a sister, Sylvia Burke, of Mahanoy City. two brothers, Thomas, of Kulpmont; Michael, of Shenandoah.
She is also survived by Nieces and nephews, 10 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
She is preceded in death by brothers Steven, Joseph, Albert and a sister Joanne Yanchulis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 10 AM on Saturday, August 24th, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating.

Deanna M. "Sis" Hubler Frantz, 78, of Ashland, PA went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 15, 2019. She was surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born May 26, 1941, at the Ashland State General Hospital. She was the fifth child of eleven, born to the late Arthur and Anna Kellerman Hubler.
She attended Butler Township High School. Sis was a member of Christ EC Church, Lavelle, and was employed for many years as a cook for North Schuylkill School District and then went on to work for Hershey Foods until her retirement. Sis truly loved helping others in their times of need and was a good friend to many.
Sis was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Snyder Nahodil, and great grandchild, Reese Bixler; as well as 4 sisters: Carole Masser; Donna Tobias; Fae Geist; and Janet Perchinski; and 2 brothers: Arthur Hubler and Ronald Hubler.
Surviving are her husband, Donald D. Frantz; and two daughters: Debra Hine, wife of Edward; and Deanna Hogan, wife of Edward. 7 grandchildren: Albert Dumboski; Trista Dumboski; Elliot Hine, husband of Allison; Danielle Bixler, wife of Jason; Zachary Hogan; Matthew Nahodil; and Shawn Nahodil. 4 Great-Grandchildren: Dakota Dumboski; Kruker Bixler; Leighton Hine; and Matthew Nahodil. Also surviving are four siblings: Ellen Harner; William Hubler; Deb Fetterolf; and Judy Hubler.
Sis was truly blessed during her time of illness with a great team of loving and caring caretakers who she loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland with Rev. Michael Eck officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lavelle. Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday, August 19, from 10:00 AM to time of service at the funeral home.

James E. Humphrey, 73 of Pottsville, long time Pottsville funeral director, died Friday at home.
He was born January 31, 1946 in Baton Rouge, LA a son of the late Clement E. and Nellie Haines Humphrey.
He was a 1963 graduate of Pottsville High School, a graduate of Kilgore College and was a graduate 1974 of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with a degree in Funeral Directing and Embalming.
He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War.
Jim began his career as a funeral director after his year of internship on December 17, 1975. He and his wife Linda later founded the James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, on February 1, 1987. Jim handed operations of the funeral home over to his son James B. Humphrey in 2017. On April 22, 2019 Jim fully retired due to health reasons and the funeral home was sold to his son James,
Jim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski Lodge 216 F&AM, and a life member Good Intent Fire Company, all of Pottsville; VFW Post # 129, Robert E. Baker American Legion Post #38 Schuylkill Haven, Lebanon/Schuylkill County Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association where he served as District 6 Governor, acting executive director and was the only funeral director in Pottsville and Schuylkill County to serve as President from 1983-1984; and was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Philip Melley Lodge # 65. He was also a former executive board member of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science where he served as Secretary and a former board member of the Schuylkill County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Surviving are his wife Linda Dimmerling Humphrey; 2 sons, James B. Humphrey and his wife Heather M., Pottsville; Todd J. Humphrey, Pottsville: 2 grandchildren, Lillian A. and Hayden P. Humphrey; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 10AM from James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 6-8PM Wednesday and from 9AM until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Our family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St. Pottsville PA, 17901. Interment with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
