A teacher at North Schuylkill has been awarded a grant for the district.
Last week, California Casualty awarded North Schuylkill teacher and Art Club Advisor, Kerri Herring, with a $250 Music and Arts Grant.
The grant is designed to foster
creativity in schools, such as choir, band, dance, film, theater, computer arts and graphics, or any K-12 curriculum that employs art for learning. Arts and Music programs at four public schools in PSEA Eastern Region are receiving this grant for a total of
$1000.
“I’m excited to put these dollars to work for our students. We usually have to fundraise for materials, so this means more
time for the club to create art,” said Kerri Herring when receiving the award. Kerry teaches fine art and has been with the district for 20 years.
With the advent of standardized testing and shrinking school budgets, arts programming is being scaled back in many schools.
Creativity plays a key role in many different career paths for students after graduation, and the Art Club is trying to fill that role at North Schuylkill.
