Matthew Joseph Oliver, 49, of Tamaqua, PA died on November 24, 2019 at home.

Born in Hazleton, PA on January 14, 1970, he was a son of the late Robert and Katherine (nee Schaffer) Oliver. A lifelong resident of the Tamaqua area, Matthew graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1987 and received an electrical Associates Degree from Lincoln Technology. He had been employed as a forklift operator for the transportation and warehouse industry. Matthew was a member of the Catholic faith.

A very family oriented individual, he is survived by siblings, Joseph Oliver of Coaldale, PA, Mary (Oliver) Trubilla and her husband, Joseph of Coaldale, and Robert Oliver and his wife, Eleanor of New Ringgold, PA as well as 4 nephews.

Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 30 at the Zizelmannn-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Interment in Sky View Memorial Park will follow. Call 5-7 PM on Friday, November 29 and 9-10 AM on Saturday, November 30 at the funeral home.

Ann E. Hood, 89, of Centre Street, Ashland, passed away Saturday, November 23rd at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born at the former Ashland State General Hospital, Fountain Springs, August 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Hennessy Dwyer. She was a graduate of the former St. Joseph High School, Ashland, class of 1948, and was employed as a computer operator for Capital Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harrisburg, until her retirement. Ann was a very active member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, now St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, Ashland, and a lifelong member of the Friends of St. Joseph’s. She was very enthusiastic supporter and organizer of the Ashland Boys Association and the A.B.A. parade.

Preceding her in death was a son, Daniel, passing in 2013, brothers, John and Michael Dwyer, and sisters, Grace Dwyer, Helen Cray, Catherine Hede and Marie Thulin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, 11 AM, in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 11th and Walnut Sts., Ashland. Celebrant will be Rev. Brian M. Miller, pastor. Visitation with family will begin at 10 AM until Mass.

Darien Dean Stanakis, 21, of Zion Grove, passed away, Sunday, November 24, 2019 at his home.

Born in Hazleton, March 17, 1998, he was the son of Robert and Deidre (Stauffer) Stanakis, Zion Grove, and spent his entire life in Zion Grove.

Darien worked as a Clerk at Rentschler's Restaurant, Ringtown; a Butcher at Capital Food Market, Shanandoah; and Home Depot, St. Clair. For the past two years he has been assisting his father with daily chores due to health difficulties. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Ringtown, and the Shenandoah Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed spending time with his Dad fishing and hunting and also spending time with the family pets.

Surviving, in addition to his parents are a sister Savanna Stanakis, Zion Grove; paternal grandparents, Robert and Carol Stanakis, Ringtown; maternal grandparents Jerry and Nancy Stauffer, Zion Grove; maternal great-grandparents Jerome Stauffer, Zion Grove; and Donald and Larue Williams, Ringtown; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His funeral will be held Friday, November 29, 2019 at 7 pm in St. Johns Lutheran Church, 106 W Main Street, Ringtown. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church, Friday evening from 5 pm until the time of the service.

Adam N. Fekete, 77, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Schuylkill County, PA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 23rd.
Adam was born in Palo Alto, PA on January 28, 1942, the son of the late Michael & Elizabeth (Semick) Fekete.
He was a member of Bethany Church, Melbourne, FL. 

Adam retired from ABF Freight Co., Carlisle, PA.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, & grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Fekete, II, and his brother, Francis Fekete.
Adam is survived by his loving wife, Claire Fekete, of 30 years, his daughter, Lori Reis (David), New Ringgold, sons, Todd Fekete (Sheri), Schuylkill Haven, & Jason Fekete, Virginia Beach, also, Annette Brilla (John), Minersville, David Chicora, Minersville, as well as brothers, Emil Fekete (Peggy), Richard Fekete (Bea), & Paul Fekete (Edwina), and sisters, Dolores Kelly, & Florence Fox (Bill).
He is also survived by grandchildren: Victoria, David, & Gracemae, Jason, & Viviana, (Ashley, Megan, Taryn, Billy, & Brandon), and several great-grandchildren.
An evening viewing will be held at Ebling-Stabingas Funeral Home, Cressona from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 1st.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. with an hour prior viewing begnning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 2nd with Reverend Rod Gable officiating.
Interment will follow the service on Monday at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

James J. Nahass, 96, Frackville, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Ridgeview Health and Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah with his loving caregivers, grandson George A. Anthony and niece Debbie Nahas by his side.

Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Jabron Nahas. He was a gunner in the United States Navy during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Jean Martin Nahas; his second wife Alma Anthony Nahas; his brother and best friend Joseph Nahas, with whom he was inseparable in life; his daughter Ida Jane Nahas Wanamaker; his three sisters: Nora Glembocki, Mary Nahas and Adele Williams.

James is survived by his two step-sons: Gerry and his wife Joann Anthony, Frackville, George Anthony, Frackville; his sisters: Josephine Swirsky, New Ringold, Martha Dodds, Pottsville and Elizabeth Gough, Arizona; his sister-in-law, Olga Nahas, Frackville; his grandchildren: Thomas Spolski, Jennifer Martin, George, Joe, Gerard, Michael and Amanda Anthony; his nephew Joseph Nahas, niece, Deborah Nahas-Frisch and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday November 30th from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville with Fr. Brian Miller officiating. Friends are invited to his visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery Englewood, Frackville.

Vera Blackwell, 78, of Frackville, died Saturday November 23, 2019 at LVHN-Schuylkill-East, Pottsville.

Born in Frackville, July 19, 1941, She was a daughter of the late Alex and Catherine (Kitscock) Spotts.

She retired as Bookeeper from Pritz Dodge, Llewellyn, PA.

Vera was a member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Frackville ,.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene J. Blackwell on September 15, 2019. 5 Brothers and 4 Sisters.

Surviving are 3 sons Eugene J. Blackwell III and his wife Kathleen of Frackville; Eric Blackwell and his wife Michelle of Paxinos; Alex Blackwell and his companion Nicki of Virginia Beach, VA; 4 grandchildren E.J., Madison, Manny and Aidan. Nieces and Nephews.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday from St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 45 S. Second St. Frackville with Rev. Petro Zvarych officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Memorial Fund 245 S. Middle St., Frackville, PA 17931. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery , Annville.

Robert J. “Red” McCaffrey , 95, of Pottsville, died Saturday November 23, 2019, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, December 5, 1923, He was a son of the late James and Kathryn (Kelly) McCaffrey.

Robert J. McCaffrey served in the US Army during WWII.

Red worked as a Welder for Aetna Steel until their closing, drove Bus and worked in maintenance for the Pottsville School District and drove a shuttle for the former Good Samaritan Hospital.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; Pottsville Amvets Post 180; Pottsville VFW; Life member West End Hose Company #7, Pottsville; and Minersville American Legion Post 1044.

Red loved sports. In his younger years he and his brother Bill (The Irish Brothers) were a winning boxing team for the Pottsville YMCA. Later in life he enjoyed coaching the “Bunker Hill Bombers” minor league baseball team, umpiring rotary little league games, Pottsville adult slow pitch softball teams, and Pottsville basketball. He loved bowling and golfing. His proudest moments were a hole in one at Mt. Valley Golf Course 1994, winning the Little Brown Jug Invitational golf tournament in 1980, and his multiple Gold medals in the Senior Olympics. He also loved his Notre Dame Football Team.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louise (Hughes) McCaffrey in 2013, 2 brothers James and William McCaffrey.

Surviving are 2 sons James McCaffrey and his wife Patricia of Cressona; Robert McCaffrey and his wife Kerry of Schuylkill Haven; daughter Mary Larish and her husband James of St, Clair; 5 grandchildren Kaitlin McCaffrey, Shawn McCaffrey, James Larish, Eric Larish and his wife Maria and Alexandra Larish; Nieces and Nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday and 9:00-10:00 AM Wednesday from the Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 N. Second St. Saint Clair, PA 17970. Mary Ann Hoppes, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend to many, of Mush Dahl Road New Ringgold, passed away peacefully November 25th, 2019 at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, surrounded by her family at the age of 89.

Born August 10th, 1930 in Landsford PA, daughter of the late Micheal and Anna (Hrinda) Valent, widow of the late Norman Hoppes, died February 9th, 1998. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church of Mantzville, PA, she graduated from Lansford High School in 1948. Mary Ann was a homemaker and worked with her husband in his auto repair shop for many years. She also helped her daughter Dr. Elaine Hoppes in her dental practice.

Mary Ann and Norman had 5 children, the late Sandy Steigerwalt, wife of Leon Steigerwalt. Elaine Hoppes DDS, wife of Steve Goroshko. Lori Finucan. Preceded in death by infant twins Donna and John, brother Edward, and sister Eleanor. Grandchildren, Kim and Chris Matlaga, Vicki Lowman, Kelly Lewis, wife of Mike Lewis. Mary Ann also has 4 great grandchildren, Olivia and Cassidy Lowman, Savannah Adams, and Caroline Balogach.
