On Tuesday, Ashland Police filed charges against a woman for stealing a purse earlier this month.
According to Ashland Police Chief Gerard Daley, on December 20th, 2019, he received a report from a victim that her purse was stolen at the Boyer's Market in the borough on the evening of December 18th, 2019.
The victim told police that after shopping and unloading her groceries into her car, she forgot her purse in her shopping cart. After returning to her cart, her purse was gone. The victim told police that inside her purse was her driver's license, social security card, and credit cards.
Chief Daley reviewed parking lot security footage which showed the victim leaving her purse in the shopping cart and before she returned, an unidentified woman takes the purse out of the cart and places it inside her own black purse.
While investigating, Chief Daley shared photos from surveillance of the unidentified woman with Skook News, which were posted to social media.
Later that day, Tina Ennis, 63, of Ashland, contacted the police department and identified herself as the woman in the photos, but denied taking the purse.
Chief Daley visited Ennis at her home to speak about the incident where she continued to deny taking the purse. Chief Daley asked Ennis to come down to the station where he would show her the surveillance video.
As of December 31st, 2019, Ennis had not stopped at the station to see video. On Tuesday morning, Chief Daley filed theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property against Ennis.
