Elementary Students Learn About the Military; Packs Care Packages for Homeless Veterans and Troops Overseas

The day before Thanksgiving has become day of giving back to veterans and active military members at North Schuylkill Elementary.

This past year, the North Schuylkill Elementary PBIS Committee used the day to teach students how to give back to those serving our country overseas while learning about the military at the same time.

This year, 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade students packed care packages that will be sent to troops overseas as well as packages for homeless veterans.

The items for the care packages were donated by the Hexcel, which included food, toiletries, sleeping bags, blankets, and more.

Over 250 care packages were packed, each with their own card from a student thanking them for their service.

Local veterans from the American Legion and VFW also visited, met with students, and told stories about their time in the military.

Active service members from Indiantown Gap also brought their equipment and vehicles to let the students explore, ask questions, and learn what they are used for.
