Marie E. Hayek, 100, of Frackville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 13th. Born in Shenandoah, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Elizabeth (Haddad) Nahas.
She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School, was a 1936 graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy and McCann School of business. She worked at various offices in Frackville, before leaving for Washington DC, where she worked in the Signal Corps at the Pentagon during WWII. Married to Jack Hayek in 1945, she moved to Paterson, NJ, before relocating back to Frackville in 1960. She worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Medical Records Department, Pottsville from 1961 to 1983.
Marie was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, past-member of the Catholic Daughters, and a champion bowler with the Paterson bowling league.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John J. Hayek in 1959; her siblings: James Nahas, Sara Welikonich, Dorothy Rader, Adele Matern and Joan Griffin.
Marie is survived by her four loving children: John and his wife Barbara Hayek, Mechanicsville, VA; Diane Hayek, Frackville; William and his wife Joann Hayek, Lancaster; Richard and his wife Karen Hayek, King of Prussia; her brother Robert Nahas, New York City, NY; her sisters; Rose Matthews, Syracuse, NY and Helene Nahas, Frackville; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Bernadette Nahas, Frackville; her two brother-in-laws, Charles Matern, Frackville and Michael Massood, Wayne, NJ; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 11 a.m. from Annunciation BVM Church, Frackville with Rev. Brian Miller, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends are invited to call at Annunciation BVM Church on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will follow mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Englewood, Frackville.

Lester W. “Duke” Riegel, Jr. was born on July 26, 1985. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 214, 2019.
He was the son of Lester W. Riegel, Sr. and the late Elaine Riegel (Mrs. Riegel passed away in December 2011). Duke was a member of First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven.

Duke enjoyed camping, the annual pancake breakfast at Tom Schaeffer’s RV Center and the annual “SAM” Christmas Party. He also enjoyed running daily errands with his father.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019, graveside service at 11 am on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven followed by a Memorial service at First United Methodist Church, Schuylkill Haven, Rev. Chloe A. Lubold, 87, of Tower City, passed away Friday, December 13th at The Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.
Born in Tower City, October 1, 1932, a daughter of the late Ivan and Alma McNoldy Hand.
Chloe was a retired seamstress from the garment industry.
She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Tower City; the Tower City American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Porter Tower Lionettes.
Chloe was always volunteering when everyone needed a hand. She volunteered with the Tower City Old Home Week for many years, something she always looked forward to doing.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Leon Bender and Alvin Lubold; a son, Terry Bender and a sister Neva Meese.
Surviving are her two sons, Bruce Bender (Sandy), Muir and Scott Bender (Crystal), Williamstown; 3 grandsons and 2 great grandsons.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 19th at 11:00 am from the St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin with Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy. Leon Noel Chernesky, 62, of Ringtown, formerly of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Peter and Helen (Rapiejko) Chernesky.
He was a graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School.
Prior to his retirement, he was last employed as a truck driver for Karshner Industries, Hazleton. He was also employed as a truck driver for Wenco and then Rands Trucking.
Leon was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly St. Stanislaus Church.
He was also a member of Polish American Fire Company No. 4, Shenandoah, and a former member of Arrowhead Rod and Gun Club, Zion Grove.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were two brothers, Peter and Joseph.
Surviving are his life partner, Linda Dower; one daughter, Carla Harper and her husband, Harrison, of Frackville; two grandchildren, Kacey and Harrison Harper; one sister, Mary Ann Chernesky, of Shenandoah; one sister-in-law, Susan Chernesky, of Shenandoah; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah, is in charge of the arrangements.
