Mahanoy City Firefighter Charged with Stealing from Firehouse

A firefighter from Mahanoy City was charged for stealing from his own firehouse on Monday.

According to Mahanoy City Cpl. Charles Kovalewski, on Monday, he was called to the Citizen's Fire Company, on West Centre Street, for a report of a theft from the bar area.

Kovalewski said that members of the firehouse reported that $120 was missing from the bar.

Kovalewski reviewed the security cameras that showed Daniel Jason Igo, 32, of Barnesville, enter the bar two times during the early morning hours in which the area is locked and off limits.

Igo is a member of the fire company but did not have a company issued key.

Kovalewski said Igo is seen entering through a door at 1:51 a.m., walking directly to the quarter machine and using what appears to be a wire that he bends to reach into the coin chute.

Igo can be seen fishing around for a few minutes, leaves at 1:55 a.m. and then re-enters at 2:08 a.m., and is seen fishing the wire into the machine, retrieving bills and leaving at 2:09 a.m.

Igo was charged with criminal trespass and burglary, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
