The Schuylkill Technology Center, Mar Lin Campus, will begin offering adult, evening Welding Classes starting Tuesday, January 21, 2020. The Welding I &Welding II classes will run Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from January through April from 530pm- 9pm for a total of 88 hours.
The Welding One Course offers instruction for the beginner, stresses safety and instruction welding rods, striking the arc, basic manipulative techniques in oxyacetylene cutting, plasma cutting, oxyacetylene welding and brazing in four major joints. Students will receive an excellent foundation to excel to the Advanced Welding course. The Welding Two Course includes oxyacetylene cutting, construction, setup and welding in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions and an introduction to mig welding. The instructor, William Picht, is an experienced welder with more than 18 years of experience in the field of welding as well as prior instructional experience. Welding is listed as a High Priority Demand Occupation for the Luzerne Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board with a 7.8% projected job growth.
“STC is excited to resume operation of adult evening classes, which had been very popular in the past, but have waned in recent years,” said Shannon Brennan, STC Director. “I can remember a time when STC offered all sorts of evening adult classes on wiring, cooking and automotive repair and we plan to begin expanding our offerings in the coming year,” said Brennan.
The total cost for two classes is $1000. These courses have been approved for funding through the Commonwealth Workforce Development System to eligible applicants.
