On Tuesday, Skook News learned from the Pottsville Pub (Pottsville Area HS Yearbook) staff that the school board is proposing to cut the yearbook advisory position.
According to the staff, the students learned on Tuesday that due to budget cuts, the Pottsville Area School Board had decided to no longer fund the Publications Advisor's position, which is currently being held by Leslie Herring, an English Teacher at the High School.
While the proposed change does not mean that the district is stopping the yearbook, the students involved believe without a full-time advisor that the publication team will no longer be able to function and create the high quality of work it does now.
They also believe that Herring has helped the team in the past few years, earn more money than before, thanks to her reorganization and creation of a business team to collect sponsorships. In turn, that money was used to create experiences for students interested in publications to attend conferences and create the high quality yearbooks.
As of 2:00pm, Wednesday, the students had gathered almost 2,000 signatures.
