Mary Rose Sklaris, Frackville passed away peacefully at Shenandoah Manor Nursing Center on Wednesday morning, her 91st birthday.

Born in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Agnes Denavage Palulis. She worked in sales for the former Shen-an and Wolowitz children store, Shenandoah.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Frackville and the Frackville Area Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Sklaris with whom she celebrated 68 years of marriage; a sister, Dorothy Grigas and a brother, Edward Palulis.

Mary is survived by her nieces: Vivian Verna and Carol Whalen; her nephews: Steve, Ronald, and Donald Sklaris; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Monday, February 24th from Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, Frackville with Rev. Brian Miller, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends are invited to her visitation on Monday morning from 11 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Englewood, Frackville.

Joseph Kovich, of Pottsville, formerly of Wadesville, died Wednesday February 19, 2020 at Luther Ridge.

Born in Wadesville, March 4, 1928, He was a son of the late John and Mary (Fesko) Kovich.

Joseph Kovich served in the US Navy in WWII.

He retired as Machine Operator at Allied Chemical Co, Pottsville.

He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, St. Clair, and American Legion Post 719, St. Clair.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann (Stevens) Kovich; 2 brothers John and Michael Kovich; 4 sisters Mary Erdock, Anna Fedock; Dorothy Ryan and Helen Eagan

Surviving are son David Kovich and his wife Jayne of Pottsville; son Brian Kovich and his companion Kristin Gammer of St. Clair; daughter Lynn Kovich and her companion Sharle Sacco of Emmaus; son Kevin Kovich and his wife Jennifer of West Chester; Grandchildren Grant, Joshua, Allyssa, Claire, Carter and Miles Kovich; a sister Ethel Cooper; Nieces and Nephews.

Office of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday from St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 131 South Morris Street St. Clair with Very Rev. Gregory J. Noga officiating. . Friends may call from 8:30 AM – 10:15 AM Tuesday at Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home 110 N. 2nd St. St. Clair, PA 17970. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church Memorial Fund at the above church address. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, St. Clair .

Rachel E. (Seidel) Zehner, age 97, of Orwigsburg, PA,died peacefully at Seton Manor on February 18, 2020, where she resided since May of 2016. She was the widow of Russell C. Zehner who died in June of 1975.
Born October 29,1922 in Lenhartsville, PA, to Hettie (Moll) and Milton W. Seidel, she was one of 11 children and grew up on the family farm in Lenhartsville. Rachel attended Perry School District in Shoemakersville and Ford Business School in Pottsville.
She and her husband, Russ, met on their high school field trip to Washington, DC. They were married on March 3, 1945.
Rachel was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a choir member for many years. After retirement from the Sylray she spent endless hours quilting which was one of her favorite hobbies. As a member of the Schuylkill County Quilters Guild she spent a great deal of time quilting for family members. She enjoyed a good game of Scrabble and usually won. A trip to the choir festival in Ocean Grove, NJ during the summer was something she looked forward to for many years.
Rachel is survived by one brother, Elton Seidel, of Lenhartsville PA, and three daughters, Connie Teter, wife of Lester, Orwigsburg, PA; Diane Brobst, New Ringgold, PA; and Jan Grove of Orwigsburg, PA.
She was predeceased by four brothers; Arlan, Curtis, George and Lloyd Seidel; five sisters; Miriam Lengel, Helen Gougler, Evelyn Sproesser, Esther Koehler, Anna Kessler; and her son, Carl J. "Rock"Zehner.
Grandchildren; Leslie Dahl, Russell Teter, Rory Teter, Robert Brobst, Jennifer Lee, Sherri Zehner, Joshua Grove, Michele Shaner, Genia Torola and Jeremy Zehner. Great-Grandchildren; Jeffrey Dillman, Jonathon Dahl, Paige Teter, Katlin Brobst, Averey and Madison Lee, Mikayla and McKenzie Torola, Hunter and Trisha Teter, Shod and Mason Zehner.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 29, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Orwigsburg.Visitation from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Burial will be at Zion’s Stone Church-West Penn, New Ringgold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rachel’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 215 North Warren Street, Orwigsburg, PA17961.

Ruth I. Pritz, age 93, 0f Mahanoy City, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born in Mahanoy City she was the daughter of the late Daniel E. and Bertha I. (Ward) Cauffman. She lived in Royersford prior to her marriage and then lived out her life in Mahanoy City. Ruth worked and house cleaned for local residents, businesses and her church. She was a 50+ year member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was married, sang in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She had a strong faith in her Lord and tired of fighting, longing to go to her eternal home in Heaven. She was a member of the Lutheran Daughters where she served as president, vice president and secretary and was a den mother for the scout troop. The last member of her immediate family she was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Pritz in 1984, a sister Pauline Dower, 3 brothers Daniel, Russell and Ronald Cauffman and a daughter in law Georgia Pritz.

Survivors include 3 children Mark Pritz of Moore Oklahoma, Keith Pritz of Los Angeles CA and Michele Dulsky and her husband Thomas of Mahanoy City. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren Thomas Dulsky, Ashley Lively, Mallory Dombroski, Michael Pritz and Leonard Dulsky and two great grandchildren Caleb Dulsky and Gavin Dombroski and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rite of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Fred T. Crawford on Monday at 11 AM from Christ Lutheran Church in Mahanoy City.

Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery In Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the church on Monday beginning at 9 AM until time of services. Calvin E. "Cal" Shoffler, 83, of Tower City, passed away Wednesday, February 19th at the Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Hegins, November 5,1936, a son of the late Elmer and Anna Troup Shoffler.

Cal was a retired welder from Cleaver Brooks.

He was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Tower City where he formerly served on the council.

Cal enjoyed spending time at his camp in Sunbury, where he could often be found on his boat. He greatest joys were spending time with his family, his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Becker, Robert, Donald and Anna Shoffler. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Douglas Klinger.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jean M. Bush Shoffler; three daughters, Cheryl Strausser (Daniel), Pine Grove; Brenda Klinger, Mount Joy and Lori Snyder (Robert), Lykens; one sister, Ellen Topokski, Ranshaw; 7 grandchildren, Aaron and Isaac Strausser; Jena Klinger, Rebecca Ellis, Melissa Jones, Victoria Keys and Destin Snyder; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 24th at 11:00 am from St. Peter's Lutheran Church with Rev. Laura Csellak. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing will be from 10-11 am at the church. Memorial donations in Cal's memory should be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1931 Wiconisco Street, Tower City, PA 17980.
