On Thursday, the Department of Health confirmed 52 new positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in Pennsylvania.
On Thursday, PA Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine says it appears community spread is occurring in southeast Pennsylvania.
According to the CDC, community spread means people have been infected with the virus in an area, including some who are not sure how or where they became infected.
“Daily counts of COVID-19, daily case counts, are increasing rapidly, especially in urban areas and particularly southeast Pennsylvania. New cases are beginning to appear in other counties, suggesting that community spread is happening,” said Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine. “We have a real chance of slowing the spread of this virus if we all just stay home and limit our exposure to one another.”
The coronavirus, or COVID-19, has now been detected in 22 of the state's 67 counties.
As of March 19th, 2020 at 4:30pm, no cases have been announced within Schuylkill County.
The current tally in Pennsylvania as of this posting from the Department of Health is 185. The Department of Health also reported that 1,608 cases have been tested as negative.
