An update from Girardville Saint Patrick's Day committee in regards to the event.
The Girardville Saint Patrick's Day Parade was scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, 2020 but due to the ongoing concerns of the COVID-19 virus, parade officials have decided to pull the plug FOR NOW.
According to Joe Wayne, president of the Girardville Ancient Order of Hibernians Jack Kehoe Division 1, "We are going to postpone the parade for now and reassess" said Wayne.
"With the schools closing up until the day before the parade, that's too close, plus what if it goes on longer. So we will postpone for now" added Wayne.
Wayne also said the concern became greater once neighboring counties were announced to have positive cases of the virus.
"We want to keep our parade participants, those coming in from out of town, and borough residents safe." Wayne said.
Wayne said that the parade committee will meet on Wednesday to further assess and will take it day by day on when and if the parade will be rescheduled or fully cancelled.
LAOH President Annetta Whitecavage also announced that the LAOH dance scheduled for March 21st has also been postponed. A new date for the dance will be announced.
