Family and Friends Help Girardville Woman Celebrate 100th Birthday


A Girardville woman celebrated her 100th birthday with the help of her family and friends.

Margaret ODonnell, formerly of Girardville, was able to celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday as her family gathered outside of the Schuylkill Center to ensure social distancing, in Pottsville with signs and balloons.

To congratulate her on this milestone, Happy Birthday and God Bless America were sang while she watched from a second floor balcony.

Margaret was born in Girardville on April 19th, 1920 and was married the late James ODonnell in 1946. She was originally Margaret Lenahan. 

Margaret is the oldest of five, with two of her sisters still living. Their only brother was killed in WWII.

Margaret has three children, Thomas ODonnell, MaryBeth Greshock and PeggyAnn Kieres. She also has seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchilden.

“It was great to see everyone and my mom, even if it was from a distance. It’s not every day we get to celebrate such a special event”, Daughter MaryBeth said.

Her daughters and son, would like to thank everyone who came out this afternoon to make her 100th birthday special!
