North Schuylkill has found a way to remind their 2020 graduates that they are still thinking about them even though they are missing out on many events because of the COVID-19 virus.
On Thursday, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and the Department of Education announced that the state's schools would remained closed for the remainder of the academic school year. While students are still being taught from home, senior students learned many of the events that they thought they would get to experience, including prom and graduation, would also be cancelled or altered.
On Saturday, North Schuylkill's Superintendent announced a way the district will be honoring those graduates until the end of the school year.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Ackell announced that beginning Friday, April 17th, 2020, and occurring again every Friday night through May 29th, 2020, at 8:20pm (20:20 Military Time), the lights at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium will be lit to let the Seniors, the Class of 2020, know that the school district and North Schuylkill Community are still thinking about them.
The lights will stay on for 20 minutes and 20 seconds in honor of this year's senior class.
The District asks that anyone that attends the lighting, to please practice social distancing and remain in your vehicle.
