On Friday, the North Schuylkill School District held a parade to show their appreciation to their lunch heroes.
On March 20th, 2020, the North Schuylkill School District began their Grab-N-Go lunch distribution for school aged children during the district's closure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While most of the district's staff has been working remotely since school closed, the cafeteria staff has been working three days a week, assembling meals for distribution.
As of Friday, May 1st, the cafeteria workers have assembled over 32,000 meals that have been distributed in Ashland, Frackville, Girardville and the high school's upper parking lot.
Friday also happened to be, "School Lunch Hero Day".
After the lunches were distributed Friday, the cafeteria workers were treated by the district to a catered meal from Capriotti's Catering, but the district had an extra surprise.
At 12:15pm, tthe sound of sirens began emanating from the lower parking lot of the high school. The cafeteria workers stood in the high school's main loop as the Butler Township Police, Friendship Fire Company from Englewood, and the Fountain Springs Fire Company lead a parade of North Schuylkill staff in their cars.
Over 60 vehicles were in the parade with staff who brought their families with them and drove by honking their horns, waving, and displaying thank you signs as they drove by.
"It was nice to see everyone that appreciates what we are doing, it's very heartwarming" said Sharon White, a cafeteria worker for the district.
