Downed Tree Causes Brush Fire near Fountain Springs Thursday Afternoon

A downed tree knocked down wires igniting a brush fire near Fountain Springs Thursday Afternoon.

Just after 4:00pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of White Lane and Fountain Street,  Butler Township.

Crews arrived on-scene  in the area of White Lane and were able to see a column of smoke to the west in a wooded area.

Crews relocated and were able to access the area via a driveway and gain access to the fire.

Fire crews fought high winds at the time and called the fire under control around 4:55pm, but not before charring over an acre of land.

According to Fountain Springs Fire Chief Michael Kehler, the fire started when the high winds knocked down a tree and fell on wires.  The wires fell and ignited the brush below.

Emergency personnel cleared the scene around 5:30pm.

Responding to the scene were brush crews from Fountain Springs, Lavelle, Ashland, and DCNR.
