Just after 4:00pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of White Lane and Fountain Street, Butler Township.
Crews arrived on-scene in the area of White Lane and were able to see a column of smoke to the west in a wooded area.
Crews relocated and were able to access the area via a driveway and gain access to the fire.
Fire crews fought high winds at the time and called the fire under control around 4:55pm, but not before charring over an acre of land.
According to Fountain Springs Fire Chief Michael Kehler, the fire started when the high winds knocked down a tree and fell on wires. The wires fell and ignited the brush below.
Emergency personnel cleared the scene around 5:30pm.
Responding to the scene were brush crews from Fountain Springs, Lavelle, Ashland, and DCNR.
