On Wednesday, during the Commissioner's Meeting, the Schuylkill County Commissioners voted unanimously to keep the county in the "Red Phase" and to continue following the Governor's order.
During the meeting that was held remotely Wednesday, Commissioner Gary Hess made the motion to not move the county to the "Yellow Phase" as stated in a letter to Governor Wolf last weekend.
On the motion, Commissioner's George Halcovage and Barron Hetherington unanimously approved.
Hess had stated during the meeting that the decision to move to "Yellow" may have been hasty, but Halcovage and Hetherington stated "they will not wait forever".
Early word is that County Officials and Officials from the Governor's Office and Department of Health are cooperating more.
Schuylkill County's "Stay-At-Home" order is scheduled to expire June 4th, 2020. The letter to Governor Wolf was sent after Schuylkill County was not included in the first two waves of moving counties to the "Yellow Phase". State and County Officials signed the letter at the time, informing the Governor that the County would switch to yellow on Friday, May 15th, 2020.
But, FOR NOW, Schuylkill County will remain "RED".
