James McGuire, 86, of Shenandoah, passed away on Friday, August 21st at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa.

Born on February 21st, 1934, in Hazleton, Pa, he was the son of the late George and Eva “Comrad” McGuire. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a member of the A.P. Damato Medal of Honor Legion Post 792 in Shenandoah, a member of the former Shenandoah Archery Club, he was a member of the Pennsylvania Archery Association, the NRA, and the Pennsylvania Rifle and Pistol Association. Jim was an avid archer and a competitive rifle and pistol shooter.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, George and Joann McGuire of Latrobe, Pa.

He is survived by his caregivers, Sharon and Leo James Kowalsky, Shenandoah, several nieces and nephews, and close friends.

Scripture Services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 25th at 11am in St. John’s Cemetery, Brandonville, Pa and will be officiated by Pastor Jay Serafin. Military Honors will immediately follow services and will be conducted by the A.P. Damato American Legion Post 792.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9am to 10:30am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah.

The Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, Shenandoah are in care of the arrangements.

Due to Covid-19, all recommended social distancing, mask requirements, and public safety guidelines will be followed.

Marvin J. VanBlargan, 89, of Zion Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020 at his residence.

Marvin was born in Zion Grove, on April 6, 1931, a son of the late Alice (VanBlargan) and Benjamin VanBlargan.

Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he lived in Ohio where he workedfor the Sprint Telephone Company for 37 years, retiring as an electronics supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alline Joy (Cunningham) VanBlargan in 2006, and then moved back to the Zion Grove area.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Eric at birth, and a daughter Cynthia Alline Nestor in 2010. A brother, Irvin VanBlargan and a sister Mildred VanBlargan, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Marvellee Kissling, of New Mexico; a sister, Alice Kripp, of Zion Grove; and his long time companion, Barbara Troy-Wright of Zion Grove, with whom he resided He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, along with great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his extended family.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at the Nuremberg Cemetery on Friday, August 28th at 11 AM with Rev. Dr. Phil Smith officiating.

Sarah “Jane” (Trathen) Huhn
, 89, of Gordon,PA passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home on Sunday, August 23, 2020 surrounded by family.

Born in Gordon, June 19, 1931, the daughter of the late Clarence Edgar and Sarah Elizabeth (Wagner) Trathen.

Jane was known for the love she put into her cooking, baking, and the treats she for others. She was a selfless, generous, loving, caring, and kind woman who touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with throughout her life. She always ensured you left her house with a full tummy and snacks for later. She was also a seamstress.

Her life revolved around caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to go thrifting and discount shopping, gardening, crocheting, and sewing blankets for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clarence “Bob” Trathen; her husband Edward Huhn, Sr. ; a grandson Charles Edward Huhn; and great-grandson Jameson Michael Hoffman.

She is survived by her sister, Elinor Rosenmiller; three daughters and a son: Elinor Dziadosz, of Mount Carmel; Susan Fisher and her husband, James of Lindale, GA; Edward Huhn, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Gordon; and Louise Gregis of Frackville. Eight grandchildren: Warren Gunderman, Jr.; Janell Buehring; Sara Boczkowski; Mark Stump, Jr; Janna Smith; Stephanie Conley; Jessica Gregis; and Kelly Hoffman.

17 great- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. 

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home Inc. Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Amanda Janette Parker
, 35, of Auburn, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 at home.

Born on July 14, 1985 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of Tim Morgan of Pine Grove and Christine (Eisenhauer) and Dean Nicholas of Tremont.

She was a 2003 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

Amanda worked as a Machine Operator at Guilford Mills in Pine Grove.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Tom and Janet Morgan.

Surviving are her husband of almost 9 years, Robert Parker; daughter Madison Betz; son Dylan Parker; two brothers, Jordan Nicholas of Norfolk, VA, Nicholas (Kianna) Morgan of Auburn; sister Jennifer Morgan of Nazareth and her mother Wanda Morgan; grandparents, Donald and Sandy Eisenhauer of Donaldson; uncle David Eisenhauer of Tremont; aunts, Danielle (Chris) Natale of Pine Grove, Kelly (Pat) Stine of Donaldson, Jane Bettinger (Carl) of Tremont; father-in-law, Jeff (Phyllis) Parker of Aubun; mothers-in-law Elizabeth (Dennis) Levan of Myrtle Beach,SC and Barbara Zua Zua of PA; sisters-in-law, Nicole (Brian) Strauch of Pittsburgh, Ariane Guthier of PA; brother-in-law Russell Zua Zua of PA; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside Services and interment will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11:00 A.M.at the Donaldson Cemetery with Rev. Krista Roehrig officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, c/o University Development P. O. Box 852 Hershey, PA 17033 in her memory.
