State Police Make Arrest in Fatal Hit and Run in Luzerne County

Late Monday, the Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton made an arrest in a fatal hit and run incident that occurred on Interstate 81 in Hazle Township early Saturday.

Police say around 1:15am, Saturday, August 1st,  a 2000-2009 gray/silver Hyundai Accent was traveling north on the Interstate in the area of mile marker 143.2 in Hazle Township in the right lane which was closed due to active night time construction taking place.  

As the vehicle was traveling through the closed right lane, it struck and killed a construction worker who was identified as Kevin Dendulk, 30, of Royerford.

On Monday, August 3rd, 2020 around 5:50pm, the driver involved, Zachary Gerbino, 27, of Sugarloaf Township, Luzerne County, was taken into custody without incident.

Gerbino was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, tampering with evidence, and other vehicle code violations.

Gerbino was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James M. Dixon who denied bail and locked him up in Luzerne County Prison.
