Man Locked Up in Schuylkill County Prison After DUI Crash that Injured Two Children

A man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison and two children were reportedly injured after a crash last week in Schuylkill Township.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, Juan Mesa-Fernandez, 34, of Mahanoy City crashed his Ford Expedition on Moss Glen Road in Schuylkill Township around 7:45pm on Wednesday, August 12th, 2020.

Mesa-Fernandez was not injured in the crash but two boys, ages 4 and 5 where reported to have suffered minor injuries.

Police say Mesa-Fernandez was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.

Mesa-Fernandez was taken into custody and charged with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of children, driving under the influence, driving without a license, disregarding a traffic lane, and careless driving.

Mesa-Fernandez was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and locked up in Schuylkill COunty Prison on $15,000 cash bail.

Tamaqua Ambulance assisted with treatment of the injured children at the scene.
