Eight homes were damaged by fire Saturday in Mahanoy City.
Just after 6:30pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 700 Block of East Pine Street, Mahanoy City for a house fire.
Mahanoy City Police Officer Thomas Rentschler was first on-scene and found fire climbing the chimney between the rear of the homes at 729 and 731 East Pine.
As Mahanoy City Fire Chief Dan Markiewicz arrived on scene, the first was upgraded to a 2nd alarm and eventually a 3rd alarm calling in additional units from around Schuylkill County and part of Luzerne.
The fire was brought under control within an hour and crews began clearing the scene by 8:00pm.
In all, 8 homes, ranging from 723 East Pine Street through 737 East Pine Street sustained damage ranging from fire damage to smoke and water.
The American Red Cross was at the scene to aid victims.
