The North Schuylkill Spartans finished their High School Football season undefeated and brought home the District XI 3A Championship after defeating Notre Dame Green Pond on Wednesday evening.
The Spartans' season was anything but typically while working through an altered schedule because of COVID-19 and also going through two quarantines because of Coranavirus tracing.
Both teams entered Wednesday evening's game undefeated.
The game was shootout from the start with each team answering each other's drive both in the air and on the ground.
The first score of the game came on a pass from Jake Hall to a diving Tanner Walacavage in the
end zone for 6.
Two drives later, Notre Dame answered back with a pass from Colin Quintano to Robbie Spirk to tie the game.
Jake Hall would score the next points for North Schuylkill running in a touchdown.
The Crusaders struck back quick with a 77 yard pass from Quintano to wide-receiver Izzy Rodriguez.
North Schuylkill's Josh Chowansky would score the next points on a run but Notre Dame answered that with another run into the end zone ending the half 21-21.
The scoring by the Spartans continued into the second half on their first possession. On their second play of the drive, Chowansky would break away on a 56 yard.
Notre Dame would answer back one more time on a run by Matt Frauen before the Spartans found their rhythm with Hall running in a touchdown on the ground and Hall hitting Walacavage through the air again in the end zone.
A 4th quarter interception, the only interception in the game, made by Terry Thomas almost sealed the deal for the Spartans followed by a Chowansky run.
With just over 4 minutes left in the game, the Crusaders pulled within 7 with the score 42-35, but North Schuylkill would score again before the end of the game.
The Spartans took home their 5th District XI title with a score of 49-35 over Notre Dame Green Pond.
Even though the season was shortened, this is the first time the North Schuylkill Spartans finished their season undefeated.
After the game, Coach Wally Hall said "I told the kids to take advantage of ever opportunity this season. Every week was just a blessing to get to play. To get to this point and have the District XI extend the championship game was greatly appreciated. We are really proud of our kids".
