According to East Union Township Police Chief Thomas Rentschler, on Saturday morning, around 11:50am, he received a report of man trespassing on private property on a motorcycle along East Brandon Street in the township.
As Rentschler responded, it was reported that the suspect fled the scene traveling west and was later spotted by Rentschler traveling at a high rate of speed.
Rentschler activated his emergency lights and the suspect on the motorcycle accelerated and fled north on Center Street/Route 924.
The suspect fled at speeds close to 85 mph traveling through Sheppton and continuing north on Route 924 into Luzerne County.
Rentschler followed to the intersection of Maplewood Drive and into the Humboldt Industrial Park.
The suspect attempted to go off road but lost control and fell off the motorcycle. As the suspect attempted to pick up the motorcycle and flee, Rentschler was able to tackle and take him into custody after a brief struggle.
The suspect, identified as Billy Quirk, 28, of Centereach, NY, later told police that he was approached by the property owners and fled because they had guns.
Quirk did not have an answer for fleeing from the police.
Quirk was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Rossi on charges of fleeing and eluding police, trespass by motor vehicle, careless driving, not driving a vehicle at a safe speed, operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, and driving without a registration or certificate of title.
Quirk was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
