On Wednesday, the Minersville Area and North Schuylkill School Districts announced they would be switching 100% of their students to virtual learning temporarily.
Minersville Area's Superintendent of Schools, Carl McBreen, sent a letter to parents early Wednesday referencing Schuylkill County's "substantial" levels of COVID-19 for the past four weeks.
McBreen stated that "Due to the rising numbers of positive COVID-19 cases and out of an abundance of caution, the Minersville Area School District will be switching to a full virtual format for two weeks beginning Monday, November 23rd, 2020 and extending through Friday, December 4th, 2020.
The letter also notes that Minersville Area will provide breakfast and lunches to students during this time.
Also announcing switching to to 100% Virtual learning was the North Schuylkill School District.
North Schuylkill will switch to the full virtual format on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 for 4 days extending through to Friday, December 4th, 2020.
During a Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday evening, the School Board approved the switch and also granted Superintendent Robert Ackell the ability to extend the virtual learning format beyond December 4th, 2020 if he feels its needed.
