According to a press release from DA O'Pakes office, the acts are being committed primarily against the county's Senior Citizens, however, all citizens can be harmed by these acts.
DA O'Pake's office has received reports where these individuals are preying on the sympathy and emotions of senior citizens and requesting financial assistance for family members who are allegedly in distress. These reports have also been determined to be false and deceptive.
O'Pake says to take all precautions and verify if any family emergency exists.
