Edward J. Conrad
, 81, of Shenandoah, passed away Thursday, November 19th, at Ridgeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Edward was born in Mahanoy City on April 29, 1939, a son of the late Anna (Magach) and Peter Conrad.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish Shenandoah.

Ed Graduated from MCHS and Stevens Trade School, Lancaster, with a major in journalism. He was an avid sports fan who began his career with the Record American. His profession led to coverage of the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers for the Sunday Bulletin and Inquire. The family relocated to Canada where he covered Canadians Hockey, Skiing, Golf and the 1976 Olympics for the Montreal Gazette and was Editor in Chief of the French-owned Sunday Express. He met many sports celebrities during his career, including Muhammad Ali, Bobby Clark, and Mike Schmidt to name a few. He published a book “Humor in Hockey” that included all the Broad Street Bullies.

After Moving Back to the Coal Regions, Ed worked for the Shenandoah Herald and Hazleton Standard Speaker where he wrote many human interest stories about the “old-timers” and extensively covered the Sheppton Mine Disaster in 1963. After retirement, he enjoyed climbing the mountains around Schuylkill County looking for fossils, spending time with his family, friends and his husky named “Blue”. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie (Jakubowska) Conrad, a son, Edward M., of Shenandoah; and two sisters, Patricia Donohoe, of Ocean City NJ; Mary Conrad, of Venice Florida. brothers, Joseph, of Brookhaven PA and Robert of Shenandoah; and by 2 Grandchildren Robert and Bonnie Conrad, and 1 Great Grandchild Haili Conrad, nieces and nephews.

Edward is preceded in death by son Barry.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family

Alex “Itchy” Hnatishion, 95, of Frackville, formerly of St. Clair, died Wednesday November 18, 2020, at Broad Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.

Born in St. Clair, August 1, 1925, He was a son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Wansolak) Hnatishion.

Alex Hnatishion served in the US Army during WWII, than worked as a Carpenter for Lehigh Valley Railroad.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. Clair, Arnots Game and Sports Association, St. Clair, West End Hose Company and the St. Clair Amvets Post 142. He loved to give Hershey’s Kisses to anyone he saw.

He was preceded in death by 5 sisters: Anna Colna, Mary Beritsky, Julia Everly, Sophie Demko, Rose Scherr; 2 brothers John and Joseph Hnatishion.

Surviving a sister Helen Corby of St. Clair; many nieces and nephews; fiancé Michelena Catizone of Girardville.

Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:15 AM Tuesday Nov. 24, 2020 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 105 North Morris Street St. Clair. The Rev. Monsignor Myron Grabowski will be officiating. . Friends may call at the church from 9:30 -10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church memorial fund at the above address. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Diane C. Burke, 75, of Orwigsburg, formerly of Palo Alto, died Wednesday November 18, 2020, at St. Luke’s University Hospital – Bethlehem.

Born in Pottsville, January 17, 1945, She was a daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (Yost) Crawford.

She had resided at Orwigsburg Center, where she was President of Activities.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years James Burke in 2016; son Randy Burke; and an Aunt Helen Yost.

Surviving are daughter Wendy Daubert and her husband Edward of Pottsville; 4 sons James Burke Jr. of Mahanoy City; Brian Burke and his wife Melissa of Kulpmont; Matt Burke of Schuylkill Haven; James A. Burke III of Georgia; , brothers Gary Troy, Frank Crawford, Robert Crawford; sister Carol Fisher, 13 grandchildren,5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Service will be held at the convenience of family. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to the United Cerebral Palsy Association 250 Peacock Street Pottsville, PA 17901

James R. Brosius, 73, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at his home in Frackville.

Born Oct. 28, 1947, in Pottsville, he was the oldest son of the late Clarence and Agnes (Boyle) Brosius.

James was Catholic by faith and a graduate of Cardinal Brennan High School. He served honorably in the Navy. As a civilian, he worked as an industrial pipefitter and master machinist. Jim had a wonderful, off-beat sense of humor. He had a great love of family, the outdoors, gardening and cooking. He was a member of Mensa and was still studying and learning new things.

Jim was also preceded in death by wife, Diane (Galgoci) Brosius, son, James T. Brosius, and first wife, Mary (Kline) Brosius.

Surviving are a son, Christopher Pellegrino, of Frackville; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas P. and Eleanor (Blair) Brosius, of Centreville, Va.; two grandchildren, Jordan and Chris Pellegrino.

Funeral services will be private at a future date. Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements.

Harvey H. Herring, Sr.
, 88, of Seltzer, Norwegian Township, formerly of Tremont, passed away on Wednesday at Rosewood Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on June 18, 1932 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Daniel and Alma Schneck Herring. He attended Pine Grove schools, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked as an anthracite miner and was later employed as a carpenter.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Betty Jean Herring, in 1994; a stepson, Dwane Bertasavage; a grandson, Brandon Bertasavage. The last of his immediate family, he was also preceded by six siblings, an unnamed sister in infancy, Pauline Renninger, Alice Pogera, Leroy Herring, Richard Herring and Verna Herring.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 25 years, the former Gertrude Snyder Bertasavage; five children, Harvey Herring, Jr. (spouse, Louise), Tremont, Vicki Hoppes (spouse, Ray), Orwigsburg, Gwynn McCabe (spouse, Paul), Donaldson; Denise Bressler (spouse, Kevin), Middleport, and Tina Boltz, Llewellyn; twelve grandchildren Brian, Angelic, and Brittney Herring, Jessica Hoover, Jeff Hoppes, Jeanna Carl, Fallon Kutz, Jared and Alexia McCabe, Felicia and Jamie Stine, Jesse Boltz; twenty great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville on Sunday, November 29, from 2:00 P.M. Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Interment will be private in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Tremont.

Lori Ann Hauze (Leatherman)
, 50, of Girardville passed away unexpectedly at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pottsville on Saturday November 14th, 2020. Lori was born on May 21st, 1970 to Robert and Carol Hauze (Dean). She grew up in Frackville and attended North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School where she met the man she would spend 34 years with, Francis Weikel.

At 16 she gave birth to her first daughter, Rochelle Hauze (33, Downingtown). The next few years were spent expanding her family with the addition of three sons, Jeremy Leatherman (31, Frackville), Darrin Hauze (26, Shenandoah), and Jessie Weikel (23, Lavelle) and a second daughter, Bobbi Jo Leatherman (28, Girardville). Lori also welcomed 7 grandsons and 5 granddaughters.

Lori was a CNA at Broad Mountain Nursing and Rehab center in Frackville and Mount Carmel Senior Living Community. Though she loved her job, she decided to take the last few months off and enjoy life with her fiancé, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Lori was preceded in death by uncles Frank Hauze and Joseph Dean, grandmothers Elizabeth Dean and Ruth Fields, and grandfathers William Dean and Robert Hauze Sr. Lori is survived by her five children, twelve grandchildren, a brother, Robert Hauze (Oregon) and a sister, Shaleen Hauze (Frackville).

A time for visitation for the public will be held Sunday November 29th, 2020 from 4:00-6:00 PM
