Schuylkill Technology Center will offer a virtual information session at 6pm on Wednesday, December 9th regarding the Emerging Health Dual Enrollment Program.
This half day, full year program provides an opportunity for high school seniors (during the 2021/2022 school year) to earn college credits while exploring a host of health related careers. Students attend classes at Penn State University, Schuylkill Campus and also complete job shadow rotations through a variety of medical offices as means of learning more about what type of medical career they plan to pursue in the future. As part of the program, students earn 8 credits from Penn State University as well as 4 credits from Pennsylvania College of Technology.
“This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse medical fields available to them before they and their parents begin investing significant financial resources toward college,” said Shannon Brennan, STC Director. According to Brennan, STC has witnessed students who change career paths upon completion of the program as in the case of a student who hoped to work in Pediatric Medicine and chose to pursue Oncology or another who decided to pursue Veterinary Medicine rather than Dentistry.
Any high school juniors who would like to learn more about the program, may register for the information session by emailing Tracey Picht, STC School Counselor at picht@stcenters.org or by calling (570) 544-4748 ext 3149.
