He was born on Thursday, April 12, 1927, in Pottsville, a son of the late Eston C Artz and the late Mae (Dunleavy) Artz.
He attended the former Hubley Twp High School and received his honorary diploma for service during World War II from Tri-Valley High School in 2002.
He served in the US Army during World War II.
Mark was an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co, until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View.
He was also a member of F&AM Valley Lodge 797, Valley View, Harrisburg Consistory, and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Millersburg Forrest 125.
Mark and his wife Phyllis received the Rotary Co-Citizen of the Year award in 2002.
Mark was one of the original ambulance drivers when the Hegins Ambulance Association began in the 1970's. He also helped to design the ambulance building.
Mark was a lifelong Phillies fan. He enjoyed taking trips to the cabin and the shore, and spending time with his family. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the country; they visited all of the lower 48 states.
His wife Phyllis L (Wagner) Artz, to whom he was married for 70 years, passed away one week prior to him on, November 25, 2020.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Warren E Artz; and by his beloved dog Odie.
He is survived by a daughter, Debra L Barry and her husband Richard of Hegins; a son, M. Steven Artz and his husband Thomas C Strickler of State College; two grandsons, Thomas E Barry and his wife Hayley of Valley View, and Phillip M Barry and his wife Alyssa of Valley View; four great-grandsons, Connor Barry, Caleb Barry, Carter Barry, and Cooper Barry; a great-granddaughter, Riley Barry; and one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services for both Mark and Phyllis will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Duane Bardo and Rev. Jack Murray officiating. Please follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines for the service.
Masonic services for Mark will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday at the church. A viewing for both Mark and Phyllis will following the Masonic service from noon until 1 p.m.
Burial will be made in St. Andrew's Cemetery, Valley View.

John “Jack” T. Woodring, 70, of Tamaqua, PA died on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 in Bethlehem, PA. He was the husband of Alberta (nee Patrick) Woodring to whom he was married 51 years.Born in Coaldale, PA on August 15, 1950, Jack was a son of the late John “Whitey” and Fern (nee Schellhammer) Woodring. A 1968 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he was employed at Ameteck Westchester Plastics, Nesquehoning, PA for 32 years. Jack currently was a bartender for the Tamaqua American Legion where he was a social member. He was a life member and past president of the American Hose Company, Tamaqua. Jack was a member of the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club in Lehighton, PA; the West Penn Rod and Gun Club; and the Schuylkill County Notre Dame Club. He was affiliated with Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tamaqua.
In addition to his wife, Alberta, he is survived by sons, John Woodring and his wife Regina of Gilbertsville, PA and Christopher Woodring of Idaho; granddaughters, Madisyn Woodring and Jordan Woodring; grandson, Zachary Woodring; siblings, Linda Yellets of Cape May, NJ, Ray Woodring and his companion, Debbie of Tamaqua, Robert “Bob” Woodring and his wife Irene of Hometown, PA, Shelly Woodring of Tamaqua, and Jim Woodring of Houston, TX; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.

Born in Muir, July 4, 1927, a daughter of the late Garvin and Mary Romberger Bixler. Dora was a retired seamstress working in numerous factories including Bestok and Mansonwear.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin.
Dora spent her entire life caring for others, she will be remembered as one of the kindest, sweetest and most gentle women. She always enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Her love and pride for her family was evident to anyone she came in contact with.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Theodore "Tom" Wertz, 2009. Dora was the youngest of thirteen siblings, who all predeceased her.
Surviving are her three children, Dr. Philip Wertz (PhD) and his wife Nancy, Iowa; Debbie Westle and her husband Rob, Philadelphia and Dr. James Wertz (DO) and his wife Carol, Bethlehem; her seven grandchildren, Henry and Jocelyn Wertz; Jessica and Lydia Westle; Andrew, Kathryn and Nicholas Wertz; three great grandchildren, Indigo, Calla and Milo. Many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:00 am from the Methodist Cemetery, Muir with Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dora's name should be made to St. Peter's UCC, 427 Dietrich Avenue, Orwin, PA 17980.
