Emergency personnel are at the scene of a crash on Route 924 near Gilberton.
Just after 12:30pm, a crash occurred on the Frackville/Shenandoah Highway near the bridge in Gilberton that involved a vehicle over an embankment with entrapment.
Not long after crews arrived, a Schuylkill County Deputy was called to the scene.
UPDATE: (3:00pm) - According to Frackville Police Chief Rick Bell, On Friday January 15, 2021 at 12:30PM, the Frackville Borough Police Department responded to the report of a single vehicle accident on Rt. 924 at the Gilberton Bridge. Upon arrival it was learned that a white vehicle was traveling south on Rt. 924 at a high rate of speed and drove off the roadway, struck and embankment and went over the guard rail, dropping off the side of Rt. 924 and the bottom of the embankment. The sole male occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Andrew Szczyglak.
The name of the occupant is not being released at this time, pending notification of family members.
Assisting the Frackville Police Department was: Gilberton Fire Co., Shenandoah Ambulance, Mahanoy City Fire Rescue, Ashland Police Department, Shenandoah Police Department, West Mahanoy Township Police Department, Mahanoy City Police Department, and the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
