Scott E. Taylor, Criminal Captain of the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office, has announced his intent to seek the candidacy for Magisterial District Judge for District Court 21-2-01, Frackville.
“Serving as an officer of the Court of Common Pleas in Schuylkill County for over 22 years, I feel it would be a natural progression for me to serve as Magisterial District Judge, a position where I could use my court experience and understanding of the law to render fair and impartial decisions to those who come before me,” Taylor said. “I believe in due process – that people appearing before the court should be treated fairly. But I also recognize the importance of maintaining law and order.”
Given his courtroom experience in both criminal and civil trials, Taylor, who lives in Frackville, believes he has the qualifications and even-mindedness to serve his community and to serve competently as Magisterial District Judge.
Some of the accomplishments Taylor has attained over his career include: serving as the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Counterterrorism Task Force Co-Chair to the Law Enforcement Sub-Committee. Also serving on Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Drug Task Force and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Gang Task Force, to mention a few.
Captain Taylor is a lifelong Schuylkill County resident and has been an active member of the community as a National Certified Firefighter in the volunteer fire service for 30 years, currently a member of Friendship Fire Company, Englewood. He also has served for 16 years as a Schuylkill County Commissioners-appointed member of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, as well as a member of the Keystone Incident Management Team with operation section chief skills. Taylor also is a member of the National Rifle Association and a NRA firearms instructor, a member of the Frackville Elks; Pulaski Masonic Lodge #216; the Fraternal Order of Police, Black Diamond Lodge #80; and the Pennsylvania Narcotics Officers Association.
Taylor is a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and went on to attend the Sheriff’s Academy at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law, in Carlisle. He and his wife Taryn have two daughters, Johannah and Amelia, who both attend the North Schuylkill School District.
Taylor plans to cross-file on both the Republican and Democratic tickets in the May Primary Election. Magisterial Judge District 21-2-01 includes Ashland, the, Butler, North Union, Ryan and Union townships, the Altamont Precinct of West Mahanoy Township, and Ashland, Frackville, Gilberton, Girardville and Gordon.
