On Wednesday morning, the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville released details on a 7-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 81 on Monday evening.
According to troopers, the crash occurred just after 6:30pm, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Kline Township at mile marker 138.9.
The crash reportedly began as Hipolito Pabon Jr., 51, of Lebanon was traveling northbound in a Toyota Sequoia and lost control in the icy conditions. Pabon's vehicle struck the right guard rail and came to a stop partially blocking the right lane.
A second vehicle, driven by John Jones, 39, of Nescopeck stopped along the highway to aide Pabon.
While Jones' Ford Interceptor was parked, a tractor trailer driven by Steven Kinney, 22, of Presque Isle, ME sideswiped his vehicle.
At the same time, a Honda Civic driven by Ken Wilson, 43, of Lansford rear-ended the tractor trailer.
While the above incidents occurred, three other vehicles avoided the crashes, but lost control and became disabled in the snow in the median.
Pabon's passenger, Eleni Angelatos, 38, of Lebanon, Wilson, and Wilson's passenger, Heather Carl, 40, of Lansford all suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to an area hospital by EMS.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed for approximately an hour and a half while the scene was cleared.
Assisting at the scene were fire departments from McAdoo, Delano, and Treskow.
