A couple from Barnesville has won $2 Million from the New York State Lottery.
According to a press release, Anthony and Susan Kowalick from Barnesville, Pennsylvania have claimed a $2 million Mega Millions Megaplier second prize. The lucky couple matched the first five numbers drawn for the January 8 drawing.
“We feel very lucky,” said Anthony.
The Megaplier is an optional $1 additional wager available to Mega Millions players at the time of purchase. The add-on feature allows players to multiply a Mega Millions prize, other than the jackpot, by up to five times its original value.
Megaplier numbers are selected randomly prior to each Mega Millions drawing. Much to the delight of the Kowalick’s, the random number selected for the January 8 drawing was 2. As a result, they saw what would have been a $1 million second prize automatically double to $2 million.
The winning Mega Millions numbers for the January 8 drawing were 3-6-16-18-58 Mega Ball 11.
The $2,000,000 Mega Millions second prize is paid as a one-time lump sum payment. The Kowalicks opted to split their prize. They will each receive a net check totaling $671,800 after required withholdings.
They plan to invest and help their family with the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Love’s Travel Stop on Industrial Park Drive in Binghamton.
