The organizers of one of the toughest races in Schuylkill County, if not the area announced the 2021 edition would be cancelled.
On Thursday, organizers of the Coal Cracker 10k and Kids Fun Run in Shenandoah announced on social media that this year's event was cancelled.
The event was scheduled to take place on June 12th, 2021.
In an announcement posted to Facebook, the group stated "We value the health and safety of our runners, volunteers and community supporters above all else. We recognize that our race would not be possible without the help and support of our small businesses. We do not feel that it is ethically or morally right to ask them for monetary sponsorships due to the toll COVID-19 has taken on businesses and communities. These businesses need our support during this difficult time. Please consider spending your registration dollars and time at local businesses so that they and we can come back strong and ready to rally next year."
The race that was scheduled for 2020 was also cancelled. Registrants for the 2020 race had the choice to defer their payments to this years. Anyone that was already registered has the choice of having their money refunded or their entry automatically deferred to the postponement date which will be Saturday, June 11, 2022.
