Lori Lynn (Haines) Groody
, 56, beloved wife, mother, Nanny, and Aunt of 1834 Walnut Street, Ashland, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family members after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She fought bravely and never complained. She was known to help others who were having a bad day, even though she herself was going through so much. She touched countless lives, who will be changed forever. She was born November 29, 1964, at Shamokin State General Hospital and was the daughter of the late Richard and Janice (Llewellyn) Haines of Coal Township. She was a 1983 graduate of Shamokin Area High School and Northumberland County Area Vocational Technical School where she studied Cosmetology. She was a state certified licensed cosmetologist. She owned and operated Allison’s Sport Shop in Ashland and later pursued her career in banking with Wells Fargo and was the manager of the Mount Carmel Branch Office.

She continued her career with a position in Harrisburg working for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a DCED Grants writer until becoming ill. She also worked as a beautician at Pink Ivory Salon in Fountain Springs, until this past summer, even as she underwent treatment and the country went through a pandemic. Her work ethic was strong. Her clients adored her and she will be missed. Thank you to Janine Lucas, the owner of Pink Ivory, for the opportunity to interact with so many great people.

Lori enjoyed attending and tailgating at Penn State football games, attending and watching Philadelphia Phillies games and attending her grandsons’ sporting events in the summer months. You would always find Lori and Michael at their second home, camping with their family and friends at the Bit of Heaven Campground along Pine Creek, Lycoming County, which brought her happiness, demonstrating Lori’s love of nature and ultimately her love of her husband and family. Lori loved her “mountain rides” and enjoyed tubing on the creek or just being with Michael at the camper with her second family. She enjoyed “the crew” at Little Pines Acres Lodge in English Center, who embraced her as one of their family. She and Michael welcomed many people at their camper over the years and they were wonderful hosts.

Over the years Lori and Michael and their friends took many vacations to the Caribbean. Aruba was her favorite island. He has many beautiful memories that will help comfort him in the days to come.  She was a member of Ashland’s Good Fellowship Club and enjoyed many evenings there with friends. It was rare that Lori could be found without a smile or a kind word for people at the club.

Lori was preceded in death by a brother Kenny Haines (1974), mother Janice (2017), and father Richard (2020). She was also preceded in death by her mother and father in law William and Teresa Groody and her sister in law Patricia Groody.

Lori is survived by the love of her life, her husband, Michael who she married March, 17, 2007. He knew she was the one the day he heard her watching TV and the music from ESPN SportsCenter playing. He was devoted to her every day. He was with her every minute to her last breath. She was a devoted mother to sons David Allison and his wife Vanessa of Lavelle and Joshua Allison at home.

Even at her sickest, her inspiration were her grandsons, Luke and Blake of Lavelle. Being a Nanny changed her life and brought her the greatest joy. The time she spent with Luke and Blake will be cherished forever. Even in her last days, their voices brought a smile to her face and lifted her spirit.

Also surviving are her brothers Ricky Haines, Coal Township and David (Tina) Haines, Kulpmont, and sister, Debra Mirack, Coal Township. She is also survived by brothers and sisters in law William Groody (Angela), Fountain Springs; Marie Groody (Mary Ann Devlin), Ashland; Christine Groody, Ashland, Joseph Groody (Ann Marie), Ashland; John (Kathy) Groody, Ashland, Rosemary Nevius, Kulpmont; and James Groody (Alette), Louisville, Colorado.
