The North Schuylkill Lady Spartans season came to an end Monday night after a last-second shot kept them from moving on to the District XI Championship.
On Monday evening, the North Schuylkill Lady Spartans faced the Allentown Central Catholic Vikettes. The game was expected to be close and it certainly lived up to that.
From start to finish, both teams played a full-court press leaving no time to breathe and little room for any mistakes.
Despite the pressure, neither team ever took full control of the game.
By halftime, North Schuylkill only led by 3 with the score at 23-20, and at the start of the 4th, the score was tied at 34.
ACC pulled ahead in the 4th and the Spartans fell behind by 5 points until the last minute of the 4th when North Schuylkill's Sarah Wagner scored with a 3-pointer and after a tie-up and foul, scored 2 more to tie.
With 5 seconds left on the clock, ACC made a pass that was last touched by the Spartans which gave ACC the ball.
The ball was passed in and as the last seconds ticked, ACC threw up a shot that missed and Julia Roth from ACC took the offensive rebound with 1 second left and made the basket for the win and stamped ACC's ticket to the District XI Championship.
Sarah Wagner led North Schuylkill with 15 points. Savannah Gawrylik finished with 9 points, while Katelynn Himes and Maddy Wetzel each scored 7 for the Spartans.
North Schuylkill's Kamryn Mengel was unable to play after spraining her ankle during warmups.
