East Union Township Man Locked Up After Throwing Speaker at Grandmother

 

An East Union Township man is locked up after an incident Wednesday morning.

According to East Union Township Police Chief Thomas Rentschler, on Wednesday morning, around 8:30am, he responded to a reported disturbance at a home on Phineyville Road.

When Chief Rentschler arrived he found numerous chairs and other times in the roadway.

Rentschler also made contact with a woman that said her grandson, Michael Bechtel, 29, had been using drugs and was lashing out.  The woman said Bechtel had been throwing items all over the road and yard, including a 12" speaker that had struck the her in the left leg.  The woman was reported to have sustained visible large contusion as a result of the speaker hitting her.

Bechtel had fled the scene into a wooded area.  The woman was transported to an area hospital for her injuries.

Around 10:00am, Bechtel returned to the home and told police that he had been up for 6 days and admitted to using drugs, hallucinating, and throwing the speaker.

Chief Rentschler took Bechtel into custody without incident and charged him with simple assault to domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

Bechtel was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $15,000 straight cash bail.
