Mahanoy City Police have charged a Girardville man after he assaulted a woman on Tuesday.
According to Mahanoy City Police, John J. Weikel, 46, of Girardville was charged Tuesday afternoon with Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Harassment, and Driving Under Suspension after an incident.
Police said a borough employee witnessed two people physically fighting inside a moving vehicle on Center Street, and once officers caught up to the vehicle on the 8th Street Road, they witnessed Weikel push a female passenger out of the vehicle and onto the shoulder of the road.
Weikel was taken into custody and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. Weikel posted bail and was released Wednesday.
The 21 year old female passenger, sustained minor injuries but refused medical attention.
