An update on a police pursuit that ended in Ashland over the weekend.
According to the Mount Carmel Borough Police, an investigation was taking place into a male that was attempting to sell narcotics on Oak Street in the borough on several occasions.
On Friday, April 2nd, 2021, the male, identified as Casian Jackson-Flowers, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, was observed by police, making a drug transaction selling methamphetamine.
Police attempted to stop Jackson-Flowers in a Dodge Charger near the intersection of Seventh and Hickory Streets when he began to flee at a high rate of speed.
A pursuit ensued out of Mount Carmel onto Route 901 and into Lavelle, Butler Township where Jackson-Flowers took a right turn onto High Road towards Helfenstein. The pursuit continued on High Road for approximately a mile until the suspect made an abrupt U-turn heading back into the direction of Lavelle. While making the U-turn, the suspect's vehicle struck the passenger side of Mount Carmel Police's vehicle.
The pursuit continued on High Road to Lavelle Road to Route 54 in Locust Dale and headed toward Ashland. While on Route 54 Jackson-Flowers forced numerous vehicles off the roadway while driving into opposing traffic.
The pursuit continued into Ashland until he ran out of gas in the 1600 Block of Centre Street near Turkey Hill, where he pulled to the side of the road, and refused to get out of the vehicle.
After given numerous commands, Jackson-Flowers was removed from the vehicle by officers and taken into custody.
Mount Carmel Police charged Jackson-Flowers with felony charges of possessing with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, flight to avoid apprehension, aggravated assault, and fleeing and eluding police, along with misdemeanor charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest, as well as numerous traffic violations.
Jackson-Flowers was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Charles Cole and locked up in Northumberland County Prison on $40,000 straight cash bail. He was released Monday after posting bail.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Cole in Northumberland County on April 14th, 2021.
