Dale J. Strouse, 76, of Orwigsburg, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 16th, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown with his family by his side.Dale was born in Landingville on November 19, 1944, a son of the late Ruth M. (Hoffman) and Henry W. Strouse.
He was the widower of Sandra L. (Kauffman) Strouse. They were married 48 years until Sandy’s death in 2015.
Dale was a member of the first graduating class of Blue Mountain High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. He founded Strouse Brothers, Inc. of Orwigsburg in 1966 and continued working until his death as a consultant and mentor. He loved his business and family. He was a well respected community figure and well known in the area. He was a member of the Orwigsburg Lions Club. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus from 1969 until 2019 as well as traveling, boating and fishing in his spare time.
Dale is survived by his daughter, Jennifer L. Gipe, wife of James; son Michael W. Strouse, husband of Heather; his companion, Kathleen Miller, with whom he resided. Also surviving are Dale’s five grandchildren Benjamin, Kira, Wyatt, Jesse and Emmitt.
Dale is also survived by two sisters, Karen E. , wife of Robert Baessler, Marilyn F, wife of Christopher Hauptly, two brothers, Larry A. Strouse, husband of Carole; Errol J. Strouse, husband of Carol. Nieces & Nephews. Dale was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth C. Strouse.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday evening, June 24th from 6-8 PM at Kimmel’s Church, 179 Pine Creek Drive,Orwigsburg. Friends are also invited to gather from 9-10:45 in the church on Friday the 25th. A Lions Club Necrology Service will begin at 10:45 followed by a celebration of life service at 11 AM. Interment will be private.

Sandra F. Swartz, of East Broad Street Tamaqua, a longtime resident of Lewistown Valley Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 17, 2021, upon arrival at St. Luke's Miners Memorial in Coaldale, Pennsylvania at 67 years of age.Born Thursday, January 14, 1954 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Arjay S., and Anna I (Moyer) Teter.
Surviving are daughter, Kristina C. Swartz of Shickshinny; brothers, Robert Teter and his wife Bernadine of Phoenix, AZ and Jerry Teter and his wife Judith of Tamaqua; sister, Nancy L. Myers and her husband Robert of Wellsboro; grandson, Dustin Peters. Many nieces and nephews also survive Sandy.
A 1971 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Sandra matriculated to McCanns School of business earning her certification as a Legal Secretary. She worked for William McDonald Esquire of Lansford for many years, and then for the law firm of Bowe, Lisella, & Bowe of Tamaqua. Sandy, was an active member of the Lewistown Valley Fire Company Auxiliary for many years while residing in the valley. An ardent reader, she enjoyed the friends she met since living at the Majestic House in Tamaqua.

Sophie M. (Hajduk) Kalinowski, 86, of Shenandoah, passed away on Thursday, June 17th in Allentown, Pa.Born on February 23rd, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Victoria (Baranowski) Hajduk.
Sophie was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Shenandoah. Throughout her life, she worked for Fetters Dairy, Elton’s, Locust Mountain Hospital, and the Ashland State Hospital.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Frank Kalinowski in 2004, 4 sisters – Anna Mikosz, Stella Paulewicz, Helen Albert, and Emily Crofton, and 3 brothers, Edward Markewicz, Stanley Hadjuck, and Anthony Hajduk.
Surviving is 1 daughter, Debra Cuff with her husband Bill and 1 son, Frank Kalinowski with his wife Lisa. 3 grandchildren- William, Jennifer, and Nora Cuff, 2 great grandsons- Christopher Jones and Abel Kakol, and 1 sister, Frances Domkus with her husband Ed.
A visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, June 23rd from 8 to 10am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Scripture Services will be held at 10am and will be conducted by Msgr. Ronald Bocian. Burial at 11:30am will follow at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery where she will join her husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LVHN Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
