A movie that was filmed in Shenandoah recently will be screened online and at the Majestic Theater in Pottsville this Weekend.
“The Tall Girls” is a play written by Meg Miroshnik that was inspired by the decline of high school girls’ basketball teams in the 1930’s Midwest. The Tall Girls asks: who can afford the luxury of play and what is the cost of childhood? Featuring a strong ensemble of female characters, The Tall Girls examine issues of class and gender amidst the historic Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
The play was filmed in the gym of the J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, Pa. and is independently produced by Sarah Elizabeth Yorke, a former director of the Shenandoah Valley Drama Club. The company features a cast of local artists and a production team spanning five states.
The Tall Girls will be streamed On Demand August 6-8th. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at https://www.thetallgirls.org/
A screening of the play will be held at the Majestic Theater in Pottsville on Sunday August 8th @7:00 PM. Those who wish to attend the screening can show proof of online purchase or purchase a ticket for $15 at the door.
