Two decades since the tragic events that occurred on September 11th, 2001, the Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Convention Parade was held in Minersville.
The parade is an annual event, now in it's 67th year, held in different communities where firefighters from Schuylkill County and the surrounding communities gather. The weeklong event began last Sunday with a Memorial Service.
By 11:00am, apparatus began arriving in town to be judge prior to the start of the parade at the Minersville High School.
The parade began promptly at 1:30pm with the sounding of the borough's fire whistle and circling of the borough by Geisinger LifeFlight.
The parade started at 6th St and proceeded down Sunbury St, across River St, up North St and concluding on 5th St.
At the Minersville Fire and Rescue on North Street, Ashland Fire Chief Phil Groody announced the parade as all the apparatus travelled passed provided history on the apparatus, fire companies, and drivers.
