The Schuylkill Country Club Book Club (SCC) is presenting an “Evening with John O’Hara” Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Country Club in Orwigsburg. The public is invited to this special event.
John O’Hara, a Pottsville native, was a renowned author. His works were often met with controversy as his stories of “Gibbsville” hit home.
In over 35 years he produced 31 books, novels and short stories as well as multiple magazine articles. The local community was often his setting. Several of his books were also made into movies including Ten North Frederick, Butterfield 8, From the Terrace, A Rage to Live and Pal Joey.
O’Hara was a member of the SCC and as part of the club’s 2021 Centennial Year Celebration, the book club has chosen to recognize one of its most famous members.
Starting at 6 p.m., the evening will be a walk down memory lane, as guests enjoy jazz music, specialty cocktails, a short program with audience interaction and a brief discussion of O’Hara’s book “Appointment in Samarra.”
The cost is $35.00 per person for the dinner. There will be a cash bar. Open to the public. Reservations are required, please call 570-366-0622 by 9/16/21.
