Just as forecasted, Schuylkill County ended up receiving over a half a foot of rain while the remnants of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Ida passed over us on Wednesday.
The rain began lightly in the early morning hours and by daybreak turned into a steady rain that would linger all day.
By noon time, first responders were responding to calls to pump water out of basements and clear downed trees and wires around the county.
According to Schuylkill County Emergency Management Coordinator John Matz, rain totals around 7:00pm when it began stop ranged from 6 to 7 inches across the county.
Matz said that by 6:00pm, County stream levels were getting close to a point where they would have caused significant impact but once the rain stopped, the levels began to drop a short time later.
Tremont and Pine Grove Boroughs were prepared to shelter residents at local fire stations; though, no sheltering was required.
Matz said that the County's Emergency Operations Center was operation from 6:00am on Wednesday until 4:00am Thursday morning along with local EOC's being staffed in Port Carbon, Porter Twp / Tower City, Pottsville, and Pine Grove Borough / Washington Twp.
