Betty Alsvan, 69, of Mahanoy City, PA, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at the Carolyn’s House Hospice Center in Harrisburg, PA after battling cancer at Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Hershey and Lehigh Valley Cedarcrest Hospital, Allentown. Prior to her illness, she lived in McAdoo at ANDSHER Personal Care Home.
Born in Manhattan, New York on January 5, 1952, Betty was the daughter of the late Cecelia (McCloskey) and Joseph Alsvan. Betty lived in New York City and attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School. Betty’s family moved to Boston Run, PA when she was nine with her four sisters and two brothers. Betty attended mass at Saint Canicus and Saint Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. She graduated from Mahanoy Area High School in 1971 and lived most of her life in Mahanoy City.
Betty loved sitting outdoors and listening to music. She also loved spending time with her daughter, son, and grandchildren—Grace and Zachary. She liked going for pizza with her family. Her favorite vacation was to Disney World in Orlando, FL where she loved the parades. She was especially fond of the Christmas holiday.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister JoAnne Bobarsky of Mahanoy City and her grandson Zachary. She is survived by her sisters, Rosemary Alsvan, Shenandoah, Frances Scheitrum, Barnesville, and Patricia Alsvan, Mahanoy City, her brothers, John Alsvan and Thomas Alsvan, both from Mahanoy City; a daughter, Betty-Jo Bowers, Lancaster, and son Anthony Bowers, III, Mahanoy City and her former spouse, Anthony Bowers, Jr., Mahanoy City. Betty is also survived by granddaughter, Grace, Lancaster, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Calcutta parish Saturday, October 2, at 10 AM with Father Kevin Gallagher officiating.
Friends and family may come starting at 9 AM for a viewing at the church.

Eugene Bushick, 63, of Park Place, PA, passed away Friday, September 24th, at his residence.
Gene was born in Park Place, PA on March 19, 1958, a son of the late Helen (Little) and Eugene Francis Bushick.
He graduated from Mahanoy Area High School class of 1975, and attained a Bachelors of History degree at Kings College.
Gene was a Scout Master, Teener League Coach, Biddy Basket Ball Coach and was also the 5th and 6th grade girls all stars coach. He was also a High School basketball coach at MMI, Minersville and the former Cardinal Brennan. Second Lieutenant in the ROTC in college. He was a member of the American Legion. Gene loved the Eagles and Phillies. He could always be found in his back yard. When he in high school he and his cousin had a band called “The Polka Boy’s”.
He worked for Forrester Environmental Company McAdoo prior to that he worked for Seitz Brothers Hometown. He was also a substitute teacher in Hazleton, Tamaqua or wherever he was needed.
Gene was the husband of Laura (Schock).
Eugene is survived by a daughter, Loretta, wife of Daniel Beshai, of North Carolina and by brothers in law Jeff Schock and his companion Michelle, David Schock and his wife Denise, Ray Schock and his wife Lisa, and Dwight Schock, niece’s nephews and cousins.
Gene is preceded in death by a son Eugene II in 2018.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, at 10 AM on Friday, October 1st, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating.
Friends and family may call Friday 9 AM at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish.
Interment will follow in St. Casimir Cemetery Mahanoy City, PA.

Amy C. Frantz, 99, of, Condor Lane, Cass twp., passed away Wednesday, September 22nd, at her home.
Amy was born in Jonestown, Cass twp, on March 23, 1922, a daughter of the late Pearl (Miller) and Edward Adams. She was the widow of Horace B. Frantz. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Minersville. She was a Seamstress in the local garment industry and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, Horace, she is preceded in death by Sisters; Pearl Close, Catherine Zimmerman, and an infant sister. Brothers; Lloyd, Ben, Edward, Irvin, and Richard "Dick" Adams.
Amy is survived by a daughter, Karen, wife of Bruce Unverdorben, two sons Harvey, husband of Nancy Frantz, Lloyd, husband of Sue Frantz.
She is also survived by Grandchildren; Kevin Frantz (Denise), Jennifer Pizzico (Mark) Brittany Starr, Kyle Frantz, Christian Frantz, Timothy Unverdorben, Bruce Unverdorben (Jennifer) Great grandchildren; Ellen and Ben Frantz, Drew and Will Pizzico, Blake and Alana Unverdorben. Nieces and Nephews.
Amy has made it “up the mountain” joining her family and friends, and the Lord our Savior. Peacefully passing at home with her family by her side. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her world. She would never turn down an opportunity to babysit, and she did it often. As they all grew, her eyes would light up when they would come to visit. She enjoyed playing bingo frequenting the local churches and fire companies. Playing cards was a favorite pass time where she would always manage to get those Aces. She enjoyed painting on the tablet, word search, and match games keeping her mind sharp, and at times putting her children to shame. Amy was not an idle woman, always walking even close to the end. A thrill seeker at heart, she would not hesitate an opportunity to ride the scenic and log flume. She was the best Mom, Gram, and GG anyone could have asked for, and she will be deeply missed.
All are respectfully invited to attend a visitation 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, September 27th at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. in Minersville. A Religious Service will be held at 11:00 AM with S. Regnal Leibensperger S.A.L.M. officiating. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville entrusted with the arrangements.
