Man Flown After Crashing into Brick Pillar in Hometown Plaza

A man was flown to an area hospital on Wednesday afternoon after he almost crashed a van into a storefront.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred just before 3:00pm, Wednesday when Arnold Kemmerer, 67, of Nesquehoning was traveling at a high rate of speed in a Chevrolet Gladiator van on Plaza Drive in the HT Commons Shopping Plaza, Rush Township.

Troopers say Kemmerer experienced an unknown medical issue and lost control of his vehicle and struck a brick pillar outside the AT&T store and Climb-A-Lot clubhouse.

The impact caused the pillar to disintegrate sending bricks and debris flying breaking several windows to Climb-A-Lot.

Kemmerer was transported to a Medivac helicopter that landed in the parking lot of the plaza and flown to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest.

State Police were assisted at the scene by fire departments from Hometown, Ryan Township, Tamaqua Rescue, as well as EMS from Tamaqua and Lehighton.
