Victim Identified from Fatal Fire in Tower City; Remembered as Community Minded Person

The borough of Tower City is mourning the tragic loss of a member of their community in a fatal fire Monday morning.

Around 2:30am, emergency personnel were called to a house fire in the 100 Block of East Grand Avenue, in Tower City.

The first personnel on scene called in a working house fire and upgraded the call to a 2nd alarm then a 3rd alarm with addresses of 141 and 139 in flames.

It took crews several hours before marking it under control just before 5:00am.

The occupant of 141 East Grand was unable to escape the fire with the Schuylkill County Coroner's Office being called to the scene.

Tower City Mayor Dan Daub later identified the victim as 28-year-old Jonathan Murray.

Mayor Daub described Murray as a great young man. Very community minded, caring person, who would help anyone and everyone.

"A tragic loss of a wonderful person. The only thing good is that he now will enjoy his heavenly reward for a remarkable, well lived but all too short life! 28 years young with a heart of gold." Daub said.

A State Police Marshal was at the scene of the fire on Monday but have not released their findings as of this posting.
