The Mahanoy City Tree Lighting Committee held their annual ceremony on Saturday night with some help from Santa Claus.
The jolly ole elf has certainly been making his rounds around Schuylkill County this weekend and he stopped by Mahanoy City to spread some more Christmas Cheer.
The lighting ceremony began on Catawissa Street next to the Veteran's Memorial with a choral program led by Lisa Broomel, who was Master of Ceremonies for the event.
During the program, the nearly 200 people that attended heard music from the Mahanoy Area Elementary Band directed by Jamie Bishop, Marie McElhenny, Emily Frye, Alivia Economy, Tabatha Ward, Shannon Taboni, Mahanoy City CCD, and the Mahanoy Area Cheerleaders.
Promptly at 7:00pm, Santa arrived via horse pulled carriage and with a countdown of everyone in attendance, lit the borough Christmas Tree.
Santa then made his way over to the Humane Fire Company where he met with children. Burn barrels were also setup to roast marshmallows.
The tree and lights are provided by the Mahanoy City Social Club.
