One person was injured in a crash near Mahanoy City on Friday evening.
Just after 8:00pm, Friday, emergency personnel were dispatched to 1010 West Centre Street/Route 54 in Mahanoy Township near the police station for a motor vehicle accident.
According to the Mahanoy Township Police, the incident began in the Wiggans area of the township while police at a separate incident.
While police worked that incident, an SUV passed sounding like it was driving on it's rims.
Officers remained at the scene of the first incident for several more minutes and while they were clearing, received the report of the crash near the police station.
Police arrived to find the Isuzu SUV had crossed the opposite lane of traffic and veered hard into the guiderail.
The driver, who was not identified, was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle due to the driver's side door being up against the guide rail.
Fire personnel helped the driver out and was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
Mahanoy Township Police said DUI is suspected and charges are pending test results.
Assisting at the scene were the Mahanoy City Police, Mahanoy City Ambulance, Humane Fire Company, and West End Fire Company.
Original dispatches on this incident stated that it was the result of an police pursuit, which was not the case.
